Events for Adults and Seniors

uc-calendar-october-2016-new-branding_page_1Qi Gong (Chi Gong) is a simple preventative health method of relaxing and harmonizing the body; suitable for any age and health condition. Every Monday @ 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. (Except October 3)

Zumba for Special Needs and Beginners led by Lis Garces, licensed Zumba instructor since 2007. Every Monday @ 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Chair Sit Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair or standing using a chair for support. Tuesday, October 4 & 18 @ 2:00 p.m.

Adult Yoga Gentle exercises to aid flexibility and improve concentration. Bring your own mat or towel. Every Thursday @ 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Accordion Club meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Saturday, October 8 & 22 @ 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

CERT Meeting educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. Tuesday, October 4 @ 6:30 p.m.

Concert: Bill Jones, Classical Guitar. Mr. Jones serves as Artist-in-Residence at Canyon Crest Academy where he works with small ensembles. Featured works by Gaspar Sanz, Fernando Sor, Matteo Carcassi, and Francisco Tarrega. Wednesday, October 5 @ 6:30 p.m.

Film Screening: Juan of the Dead. First, there was Dawn of the Dead. Next came Shaun of the Dead. Now, the zombies have invaded Cuba and only one man stands between the apocalypse and freedom. Tuesday, October 18 @ 6:00 p.m.

University City Community Association (UCCA). This is a community meeting featuring updates from law enforcement, fire-rescue service, legislative and other community leaders. All are welcome.  Wednesday, October 19 @ 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Latin Dance Class – Learn the basics of bachata, merengue and salsa. Help integrate different parts of your brain through the coordination, rhythm and strategy of dance. Wednesday, October 19  @ 6:30 p.m.

Covered California: Re-enrollment Assistance. Meet one-on-one with experts from the Family Health Center of San Diego to re-enroll in a health insurance plan. Tuesday, October 25 @ 2:00 p.m.  

Cal Coast: Retirement Planning. Learn the importance of setting goals and reviewing your retirement resources.   Tuesday, October 26 @ 6:00 p.m.

The UC Book Club will be discussing Ordinary Grace, by William Kent Krueger. Wednesday, October 26 @ 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Events for Children

Preschool Storytime for Kids; stories, crafts, finger plays and songs. Every Thursday @ 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Makerspace Craft Station is available in the Children’s Area with a different craft each week. All week long (Monday – Saturday).

Art with Elizabeth, where school aged children can learn how to draw and do other art projects. Tuesday, October 4 @ 5:00 p.m.

Events for Tweens/Teens

Video Game Fridays, Wii gaming with your friends, Get your game on! Every Friday @ 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. (except October 7)

Teen Writing Club will talk about different techniques to improve your writing. Wednesday, October 12 @ 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Sugar Skulls, a traditional offering for Day of the Dead. Each child will learn how to make sugar skulls and will complete a skull using their own design embellishments. Minimum age 8 years old. Space is limited, please call (858) 552-1655 to RSVP. Wednesday, October 19 @ 2:00 p.m.
