Candidate Statement – Katie Rodolico:

I first moved to UC in 1966 when I was four.  I’ve been active in the community – serving on a nonprofit board and coaching robotics teams… plus cheering on my kids at basketball, baseball, and water polo games at Standley Rec Center.

I received my BS in Engineering from SDSU and did graduate studies at Penn State.   My career was spent analyzing complex systems and solving real world problems.  That skill set will serve me well on the planning group.

The new Citygate report confirms the need for a south UC firestation.  I would advocate for this fire station and push to find a location that serves all of south UC.

North UC is home to many high tech employers and dense housing.  Recently, the city voted to remove the Regents Road Bridge which adds a challenge to the planning.  The Westfield residential towers are already entitled and coming soon.  Costa Verde’s expansion is partially through the approval process.  As new development is proposed, we need to be very careful in approving projects to not make things worse. We do not want to continue to lose high tech employers to the downtown Innovation Zone because of traffic gridlock.

Candidate Statement Meagan Beale:

I have lived in University City for 30 years and have been an active volunteer here with PTA, school governance teams, Girl Scouts and with my church here. I raised my three children here.

For the last four years I have represented the community on the UCPG. I am now familiar with the development and traffic plan for the community. I am committed to maintaining the residential character of South UC. I voted against the expansion of the apartments on Genesee south of Governor. They are out of character in this neighborhood. The developer agreed to a much smaller expansion than originally planned.

My priority is to get quicker emergency response times in South UC, pursuant to two recent studies showing a need for a fire station in South UC. I want to preserve the community plan and update it to reflect our current conditions, with all the increased development in North UC.

I ask for your vote to continue preserving South UC as it is.
