Overnight work at the intersection of Nobel Drive and Genesee for water main replacement begins Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (weather permitting). This work, which will be completed at night, is projected to take approximately two months. From the City of San Diego – Nightwork scheduled for Nobel Drive/Genesee Avenue Intersection: Weather permitting, beginning Tuesday, February 17, the City of San Diego Morena Northern Pipelines and Tunnels’ contractor will be working overnight at the Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue intersection to replace and install new water mains. This work will take approximately 2 months.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The work will be completed using two traffic control configurations. The traffic controls shown on the maps included below will only be in place during the nighttime work hours and will be picked up from the intersection at the end of each shift.
For one of the traffic control set-ups, the Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue intersection will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic. Northbound traffic on Genesee Avenue will be detoured to turn right onto eastbound Nobel Drive and detoured left onto Towne Centre Drive and La Jolla Village Drive to return to Genesee Avenue. Southbound traffic on Genesee Avenue will be detoured to turn right onto westbound Nobel Drive and detoured left onto Cargill Avenue and Decoro Street to return to Genesee Avenue.
For the second traffic control set-up, the Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue intersection will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic on Nobel Drive will be detoured to turn right onto southbound Cargill Avenue and detoured to turn left onto Decoro Street and left onto Genesee Avenue to return to eastbound Nobel Drive. Westbound traffic on Nobel Drive will be detoured to turn right onto northbound Genesee Avenue and detoured to turn left onto La Jolla Village Drive and left onto Regents Road to return to Nobel Drive.
Planned, temporary water outages are anticipated to be part of this work. Advance notice will be provided prior to the planned outages.
