The University Community Planning Group (UCPG) meeting for Tuesday, September 8, has been cancelled. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 13, at 6 pm in a hybrid format.
From UCPG Chair Chris Nielsen, due to a lack of agenda items, including the Cass Street presentation on the old Costa Verde site’s progress (which has been rescheduled for October 13, 2026), the UCPG meeting for Tuesday, September 8 is “adjourned” (CANCELLED).
For September 8, we originally had the old Costa Verde update and a report by Diane Ahern from the UC Fire Safe Council on updating the 2021 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) to a new 2026 CWPP:
The 2026 CWPP changes are necessary in light of new fire safe laws and operations including Genasys Protect Evacuation Planning, Zone 0 Vegetation Management, and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
The Fire Safe Council invites the public to review the 2026 update to the University City Wildfire Protection Plan and to provide feedback and suggestions.

The Fire Safe Council CWPP update documents and a PowerPoint are attached.
Both old Costa Verde and the CWPP will be back for October 13, and we will have a UC San Diego update on plans for additions to the Jacobs Medical Center and a Pure Water update. I look forward to seeing everyone on October 13. Enjoy the additional time off!
