From Diane Ahern, MCAS Miramar Community Leaders Forum:

MCAS Miramar Fixed Wing AICUZWeekend and evening training starts tonight, Friday, February 19 and goes through Sunday, February 21, with evening flights scheduled for Friday and Sunday until 10:30 PM.

MCAS Miramar is using one runway (24R) for all takeoffs, landings and touch & go (aircraft carrier landing) practice from now until September 1.

Both training flights and takeoffs/landings are sharing one runway and have to be scheduled differently than in the past. Those of us who live west of the runway may perceive additional air traffic because of these changes in scheduling.

For instance, carrier training touch-and-goes were previously scheduled for long blocks of time on the south runway 24L. Now they may be scheduled for shorter blocks of time but over a longer time period to maintain the same level of training and to accommodate all traffic sharing a single runway.

For reference, attached is graphic of AICUZ (Air Installation Compatible Use Zone) for MCAS Miramar which shows the Flight Tracks for fixed wing aircraft in which approximately 90% of operations occur. It includes departure, approach and touch & go tracks.
