June 2026 Update:
Senior Living Options on Saturday, June 13, at Cal Coast Credit Union in the Sprouts Shopping Center on Governor Drive, starting at 2:00pm.
UCCA’s next Senior Watch event features UC’s Kendra Cole. You may know her as the current president of EdUCate!, but she also runs her own business, Noni’s Senior Living Placement, that provides senior living advice. As a Certified Placement and Referral Specialist (CPRS), Kendra helps assess when to make hard choices about senior living situations.
Whether you’re the senior, or a family or the child of a senior looking at a change in their living situation, Kendra will discuss how to make those choices, no matter how difficult it may be. Learn about the differences between: Assisted Living, Independent Living, Memory Care, Residential Care, and Skilled Nursing/Rehab. The event will be on Saturday, June 13, at Cal Coast Credit Union in the Sprouts Shopping Center on Governor Drive, starting at 2:00pm. To help us plan accordingly, if you are interested in attending, please email: jemmasamala@gmail.com.
Walking on Wednesdays: Led by Marie Pleasant, the Senior Walkers meet every Wednesday, unless there’s inclement weather. Meet in front of the Swanson Pool at 9:30am every Wednesday. There are slow walkers and faster ones, and the group walks for about 45 minutes around the neighborhood. Some walkers bring canes. The important thing is to show up and move. It has become a wonderful social outing that fits into the Senior Watch mantra. For more info, contact Marie at seekgene@aol.com or 858.453.2107.
Tai Chi in the Park: Get moving with a Tai Chi session led by Maria Tong, on Sunday, June 28, 11:00am at Standley Park, outside by the pine trees by the gazebo. Open to all (even if you’re not a senior). Come out and learn mindful movement under the positive spirit of the pine trees.
UCCA is proud to announce Senior Watch, a new committee established by UCCA in September 2025 with the purpose of supporting, educating, and watching out for the welfare of University City older adults. Each print newsletter, starting with October 2025, includes both a recap of Senior Watch past events and information about upcoming Senior Watch events. Take a look at: https://www.universitycitynews.org/ucca-newsletter-archives/
