University Community Library on Governor Drive announces October 2017 programming

Programming for Adults

  • CERT Meeting educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. Tuesday, October 3 @ 6:30 PM.
  • Concert: Indian Classical Music. South Indian classical vocalist Devesh Vashishtha will present a live, interactive lecture-demonstration on the history of Carnatic music. Wednesday, October 4 @ 6:30 PM.
  • Adult Writers’ Group – Meet with other beginning writers in a supportive environment—share your writing, positively critique others’ work and hear from guest writers. Thursday, October 5 @ 1:30 PM.
  • Computer Class, computer basics. Space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Monday, October 9 @ 10:30 AM.
  • University City Community Association (UCCA). This is a community meeting featuring updates from law enforcement, fire-rescue service, legislative and other community leaders. All are welcome. Wednesday, October 11 @ 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
  • Jewelry Making, take home something you made yourself! Make your own earrings and/or other pieces of jewelry with an experienced crafter. Space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Friday, October 13 @ 10:00 AM. & Noon.
  • Accordion Club meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All are welcome! Saturday, October 14 & 28 @ 9:30 AM. – 12:30 PM.
  • Concert: Camarada Duo, Beth Ross Buckley, flute and Peter Sprague, guitar. Wednesday, October 18 @ 6:30 PM.
  • Classics Book Club will be discussing The Witness for the Prosecution: and Other Stories by Agatha Christie. Monday, October 23 @ 3:30 PM.
  • UC Book Club will be discussing My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. Wednesday, October 25 @ 2:00 PM.
  • Chemical Dependency – learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of chemical dependency and how to determine the severity of the problem. The program is led by John Seaman, MA, MAC, CADC II, an instructor at UCSD.  Wednesday, October 25 @ 6:30 pm.

Programming for Children

  • 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! Join us to hear about this new program with a special storytime. Monday, October 2 @ 10:30
  • Preschool Storytime for Kids; stories, crafts, finger plays and songs. Every Thursday @ 10:30 – 11:30 AM.
  • Makerspace Craft Station is available in the Children’s Area with a different craft each week. All week long (Monday – Saturday).

Programming for Tweens/Teens 

  • Video Game Fridays, Wii gaming with your friends, Get your game on! Every Friday @ 4:30 PM. Back to our regular time of 3:00 after the Summer Reading Program, August 18.
  • Sugar Skulls, a traditional offering for Day of the Dead, is today’s project. Each child will learn how to make sugar skulls and will complete a skull using their own design embellishments. Space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Wednesday, October 18 @ 2:00 PM.
