Grand Opening for the Mid-Coast Extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line is Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at UC San Diego, Warren Field.
From SD MTS: The new UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley extension to La Jolla and UTC opens on Sunday, November 21. Join the opening day festivities and ride the Trolley free all day. The much anticipated extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley to La Jolla and UTC will officially open for service on Sunday, November 21. To celebrate the completion of the region’s largest-ever transit project, MTS and SANDAG are hosting a Grand Opening Celebration.
The public is invited to help commemorate this momentous occasion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new UC San Diego Central Campus location. The festivities will include:
- Free food
- Live music
- Giveaways
- Games and activities for kids (rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon artists and more)
- Presentations by Federal, State and Local officials who made this project happen
- And more!

To help celebrate the extension, Trolley rides will be FREE all day! (Free rides apply to all three Trolley lines, does not apply to bus service.) Event attendees can take advantage of free Park & Ride lots throughout the MTS system to Trolley to the event.
