The University Community Planning Group (UCPG) will meet via Zoom at 6 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. This is a public meeting and all are invited to attend. The  agenda and Zoom information is available at the end of this post.

Councilmember Joe LaCava, District One, will provide some opening remarks. Here’s a brief agenda summary provided by UCPG Chair Chris Nielsen:

Item 5:  Pure Water information item update.  Sarah Bowles will give an update on the Pure Water project, take public feedback, and answer questions. The Pure Water project begins Genesee Avenue in Clairemont between Appleton Street and state Route 52 and continues in University City on Genesee Avenue, Nobel Drive, Towne Centre Drive and Executive Drive. Tunneling will be completed at Genesee Avenue and SR-52, at Genesee Avenue and Rose Canyon, and under Interstate 805. The city will give a presentation on the status of the Pure Water project, including project schedule and neighborhood impacts. Sarah Bowles, City of San Diego Public Utilities, presenting. Presentation available at: Pure Water – UCPG Presentation – Draft – 11-8-22_PDF

Item 8:  Action Item to determine the mode of the next UCPG meeting.  A December 13, 2022, UCPG would be needed if the Towne Center View subcommittee determines that there should be a UCPG comment, rather than individual comments, on the project Draft Environmental Impact Report.  Per the bylaws, the recommendations of a subcommittee must be approved and sent by the full UCPG.

Item 9:  Towne Centre View project information item.  The project proposes to build six buildings totaling 1,000,000 square feet at 9908, 9881, 9893, and 9897 Town Centre Dr.  This project was first presented to the UCPG in July 2020 as a community plan amendment.  The UCPG Towne Center View subcommittee was formed to follow and review the project on an ongoing basis and has met several times, including a site walk through.  The project team will give an update to the entire UCPG.  The project Draft Environmental Impact Report will be released by the city the week of November 14.  The project team will discuss how to obtain the DEIR in advance of the city release date for those who wish to review it.  It is anticipated that the TCV subcommittee will meet several times in the next few weeks to review and prepare comments for the DEIR.  Clif Williams and Emilie Cowell presenting. Presentation available at: Towne Centre View – EIR Meeting – UCPG 11-8-22

Item 10: The San Diego Green Building Council held its annual meeting on October 21.  Roger Cavnaugh will give a brief report on the relationship between building design, emerging technology, and the Climate Action Program.
