From University Community Planning Group (UCPG) Chair Chris Nielsen: I’ve attached the agenda for the UCPG meeting for Tuesday November 11, 2025. This will be a hybrid meeting, in person and on Zoom. Zoom instructions are to be found on the agenda and at the end of this post.
We will be having a special election for three UCPG voting member board seats, R4-C, B2-B, and B3-B. Voting is in person from 6-8 PM at our meeting location, Alexandria’s GradLabs building at 9880 Campus Point Drive, Third floor Terra Nova meeting room.

Agenda highlights include:
- Agenda Item 6: Election information. We have one candidate for each seat. Emma Chavez, a former District 4 board member, is running again for her R4-C seat. Sasan Asadyari, from Scripps Health, is running for business seat B2-B, and Dan Wagner from La Jolla Country Day School is running for seat B3-B. Only UCPG District 4 residents may vote for R4-C, only UCPG District 2 Business members may vote for B2-B, and only UCPG District 3 Business members may vote for B3-B.
- Agenda Item 7: Irvine Company – The Plaza: Board member Neil de Ramos wants to share some exciting news regarding the redevelopment at The Plaza, located at La Jolla Village Drive and Genesee. Irvine Co. is targeting January for a formal presentation to UCPG. In the meantime, we invite you to visit the project website to learn more about the vision and redevelopment plans here: www.lajollautcconnection.com. He plans to briefly share additional insights and answer initial questions regarding this project at our UCPG meeting in November.
- Agenda Item 8: Zach Burton, our representative from CM Lee’s office, will present an information item on the status of the Coastal Rail Trail bike project along Gilman Drive from I-5 to UC San Diego. Note: November 11, Veterans Day, is a city holiday. The UCPG respects Zach’s time and has suggested several alternatives for this presentation. I’ll let you know the final status of this presentation prior to the meeting if it is different than on the agenda.
- Agenda Item 9: This is a Wireless Control Facility item requesting a recommendation for a project along Eastgate Mall.
- Agenda Item 10: This is a Wireless Control Facility Item requesting a recommendation for a project located at the old “AT&T / Pac Bell” building along Regents Road north of Executive Drive.
- Agenda Item 11: The applicant is requesting a recommendation for a Coastal Development Permit for solar panels in a parking lot for shade and electricity production at 10240 Science Center Drive.
- Agenda Item 12: This will be the last update from the Pure Water construction group prior to the holidays. Work at Genesee and Nobel will be presented, and timelines discussed.
- Agenda Item 13: Reports from representatives in and around our planning area.
