On a beautiful Sunday in January, under the tall swaying trees at Standley Park, Maria Tong taught UC seniors breathing exercises, Qigong stretches, Tai Chi (3- step form), and ended with meditation. Proper breathing is crucial for daily living and practicing, which maximizes oxygen absorption and helps calm the nervous system. Qigong stretches provide benefits to the Conception and Governing meridians, circulating energy throughout the body.
On Sunday, February 22, Maria will lead another Tai Chi session at 11:00am. UCCA’s Senior Watch program presents an introduction to Tai Chi and Qigong (part 2) in a fun and relaxed atmosphere on Sunday, February 22, 2026, 11 am, outdoors at Standley Park in the area behind the gazebo and Swanson Pool.
Tai Chi has many benefits including physical strengthening, balance and mental calm. It can be achieved through stretching, moving form, and breathing exercises (qi-vital energy).
Senior Watch Committee member and UC resident Maria Tong will lead the introduction. Chair exercise options are available. Attendees should wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes for balance. Those who need a chair should bring their own.
