May 2026 update about University Community Library re-opening based on information from Melissa Martin, Community Branch Manager:
The University Community Branch Library will re-open to the public on Friday, June 5, 2026. Please join us for a special celebration at 2:00pm to officially welcome you back to the library. There will be light refreshments and crafts to enjoy as you check out the new spaces at YOUR branch library! We have missed you and can’t wait to see you again!
Many thanks to the Friends of the University Community Library, staff at the North University Community Library and City staff from multiple departments for their support during the renovation.
Please note: If you have holds already available, you will pick them up at the North University Community Library. Holds placed or filled after the library re-opens will be available for pickup at the University Community Library. Contact staff at 858.552.1655 after June 5 with questions.

From UCCA’s Diane Ahern and local sources: If you’ve been by the University Community Branch Library on Governor Drive recently, you’ve seen evidence of progress. The building has a fresh coat of paint, the construction fence is down, and a new nameplate has been installed.
According to a sign posted on the door, the library is expected to reopen in “late spring”. Since spring officially ends (and summer begins) with the Summer Solstice on June 21, UCCA expects that the library will reopen sometime in June.
However, UCCA has not received any official notification about the re-opening.
Area residents may see activity at the library as workers and library staff unpack all the books and materials to get the Library ready to reopen to the public.
