With a forecast of continued high temperatures, it is important to avoid getting overheated. Extremely high temperatures can be dangerous to people and pets. Signs of extreme heat in people and animals are exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and a headache. It can even lead to heat stroke and death. Children and the elderly are particularly at risk, according to health officials.

In University City, the Standley Recreation Center is not an air-conditioned building; the Library on Governor is closed for renovations. Neither one is available as a Cool Zone.
