The June 5 publication by the UT Editorial Board mentions University City as a community with pre-fire conditions similar to those which existed in the Los Angeles communities that experienced fire losses last year.

  • City Council is expected to consider and approve the FY 2027 Budget on June 9 during the afternoon session as agenda Item 704: Approval of the City’s FY 2027 Budget. Agenda details on the City website at : June 9, 2026, City Council Agenda.
  • Residents wishing to express an opinion on the FY 2027 Budget are urged to contact their City Council Member before the start of the June 9 session and/or enter a public comment for agenda Item 704. Information about Public Comment is available on the agenda at : June 9, 2026, City Council Agenda.

From the UT Editorial Board published June 5: “It’s been 17 months since the Pacific Palisades and Altadena blazes devastated the Los Angeles region, killing at least 30 people, torching more than 18,000 structures and causing at least $28 billion in property damage. Yet there is little evidence that Gloria and the City Council grasp the FEMA-documented similarities between the pre-fire conditions in and near those L.A. communities and those in University City, Rancho Peñasquitos, Scripps Ranch and many other subdivisions built near canyons and forested areas.
