October NEWS

The focus of the SDFD and the Code Compliance team this year is Zone 0 (the first 5 feet) because the Fire Department feels that this will have the most positive and immediate impact in our area this year.

You’ll notice that the attached brochure focuses on vegetation management in the Zone 0 space: FSC SDFD Zone 0 Sep 2026 brochure

Their recommendations in this area include removing flammable materials, vegetation trimming and pruning of overhanging tree branches, and keeping gutters free of litter and leaves. For those who want to begin home hardening, they recommend that homeowners start with screening their vents to prevent ember intrusion.

Several people asked about Home Risk Assessments. They are available and there is information on the SDFD website at : https://www.sandiego.gov/fire/community-risk-reduction/wildfire-prevention

Thanks so much to all for helping to make our community more Fire Safe.
