Lucky Pup Dog Rescue, a local 501c3 non profit dog rescue, recently opened a retail adoption center next to the Post Office in University City with the intent to help save more homeless and orphaned shelter dogs.

Founders Christine and Steve Haslet have been working from their home in North Park since 2011, rescuing dogs from southern California’s highest kill shelters in San Bernardino County. To date, nearly 200 dogs have been placed in new homes.

And now the retail adoption center. “We are so excited to be part of the University City neighborhood,” said Christine. “Governor Animal Clinic, also located in UC Marketplace, has been instrumental in the success of our rescue over the past several years. In fact, when we began looking for a location to open our adoption center, we knew we wanted to be close to their clinic since they have become such an integral part of our rescue work.”

Christine and Steve have created a network of adopters, donors and volunteers who make their rescue work possible.  “It is our hope that with the increased exposure of a retail outlet, many more lives will be saved,” said Christine. “Additionally, those who aren’t comfortable going to the shelter will find a homey environment, dogs groomed, and pups that have been spayed/neutered and are ready for adoption.”

*Lucky Pup Dog Rescue will host a grand opening celebration on August 30, 2-6 PM at their new location, 3358 Governor Drive, between Sprouts and the Post Office, UC Marketplace.

“Dogs, and their owners, are welcome,” said Christine. “And we’re always looking for dog loving volunteers and great homes for our dogs,” she added.
