Construction continues in the University City area for the Morena Northern Pipelines & Tunnels project, part of Pure Water San Diego Phase 1 construction.

At the Genesee Avenue and Governor Drive intersection, construction work began in September 2023. The work is scheduled at night, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for four to six weeks. The intersection will be open for traffic and pedestrians during the daytime. Please expect delays and allow for additional time traveling through the construction zone.

The work crews performed some potholing on Genesee Avenue close to University City High School at the end of September to confirm location of underground utilities.

Ongoing construction in other areas of the alignment include the tunneling work at the I-805 shaft on Executive Drive and work for the San Clemente Tunnel located at the Genesee Avenue lot at Marian Bear Memorial Park. Crews continue to work on Towne Centre Drive south of La Jolla Village Drive.

Both UCCA and UCPG meetings provide opportunities to learn more about ongoing Pure Water construction. The most up-to-date Construction Notices and Community Presentations are available on the City website at: https://bit.ly/PureWaterUniversityCity
