University City neighbors can help other neighbors with food and other recourses by donating time, non-perishable items, or money to organizations such as the San Diego Food Bank and Feeding San Diego.

San Diego Food Bank: Volunteers help the Food Bank by sorting/bagging produce and donated food items; and assembling Food bags/boxes for the Emergency Food Assistance Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program, and the Food 4 Kids Back Pack program. The San Diego Food Bank encourages everyone in the community to volunteer their time at the Miramar, North County, and nonprofit partner locations. Feeding San Diego: Volunteer from home and create Meals Made Easy Kits for Feeding San Diego. Help neighbors in San Diego access nutritious meals by assembling meal kits from your kitchen. Create meal kits using shelf-stable ingredients that help neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Choose from 6 tested recipes, assemble ingredients in clear bags with recipe cards, and drop them off at the Feeding San Diego facility—all on your schedule.
