From University Community Planning Group (UCPG) Chair Chris Nielsen: I’ve attached the agenda for the UCPG meeting for Tuesday, January 13; available here: 2026_01_13_Agenda_UC
This will be a hybrid meeting, in person and on Zoom. Zoom instructions are to be found on the agenda and at the end of this post. The minutes from the November 11, 2025, UCPG meeting are available here: 2025_11_11_UCPG_Minutes_Draft
Please note: The planned presentation for Irvine Co.’s housing project on the northeast side of Genesee and La Jolla Village Drive has been postponed until March.
Here is a summary of the agenda items:
- Item 4: Appointment of a UCPG D4 resident to seat R4-A, expiring in March 2026. Jay Gima asked to run for this seat last fall but was too late to qualify for the UCPG election on November 11. He will briefly introduce himself to the UCPG, followed by a vote on his appointment.
- Item 7: Announcement of the UCPG election on March 10, 2026. A subcommittee for the election will be formed tonight, nominations are due by the February 10, 2026, UCPG meeting, with the election to be held on March 10, 2026.
- Item 8: Information Item: Ernie Casco, Torrey Pines Glider Port user, gave a public comment Nov 11, and the UCPG asked him to return to give an information item in January. He will discuss current operations at the Glider Port and suggest changes that he would like to see made.
- Item 11: This is a discussion item to provide community feedback to CM Lee’s office about how Governor Drive should operate going forward. As many will recall, the updated Community Plan was approved in 2024 with an amendment by CM Lee requesting that the city consider community feedback and conduct a traffic study prior to making changes to the existing Governor Drive traffic and street configuration. This meeting will be an opportunity to begin the feedback process. Meeting participants are reminded that courtesy should be extended to all. Editor’s Note: please refer to the agenda. This discussion item is expected to begin after 7 PM to allow time for full discussion.
The next UCPG meeting will be February 10, 2026.
