UCCA’s Senior Watch presents Self Defense for Seniors on Saturday, Saturday, April 11, at the Standley Recreation Center, 3585 Governor Drive, from 2 to 3:30 pm; inside the Recreation Center in the “craft room”.

Our instructor is Gale Bryan. She has been leading self-defense classes since 2018. This presentation consists of an awareness and prevention lecture followed by a techniques demonstration.

  • The first half covers general awareness and prevention strategies for seniors, the pros and cons of pepper spray, how to use household items as improvised weapons and how to defend yourself with a cane called “Cane Fu.”
  • The second half includes a demonstration of simple self-defense techniques which cover how to escape from: wrist grabs, chokes, holds, bear hugs, head locks, hair pulls and how to fight from the ground.

If you are interested in attending Self Defense for Seniors, please RSVP by contacting UCCA’s president Jemma Samala at: jemmasamala@gmail.com
