Pentagon approves MCAS Miramar for large-scale coronavirus quarantine

As published in the Union-Tribune  FEB. 1, 2020 1:11 PM, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is among four military bases chosen to temporarily house U.S. citizens who are being evacuated from China due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Pentagon said Saturday. Miramar officials said they expect to receive a flight of returning Americans but gave no details as to when. A Defense Department statement said Department of Health and Human Services officials requested the use of several facilities capable of housing at least 250 people in individual rooms through Feb. 29. In an update published late February 2, some of the Americans fleeing the coronavirus outbreak in China will fly into a San Diego military base this week.
