⚠️Update as of 4/2/26 at 3:30 pm re University City Improv 1 / Governor Dr & Genesee Ave Intersection Work; courtesy of the City Project Construction Manager:
- The Genesee Avenue and Governor Drive intersection will see a partial closure on Friday night (04/03) from 6:30PM to Saturday afternoon (04/04) at 1:00PM.
- During this time, only right turns will be permitted at the intersection.
- In addition, on Friday night (04/03) 8:00PM to Saturday morning (04/0) 5:00AM, northbound Genesee Avenue will be reduced to one lane from Governor Drive to Centurion Square.
The intersection closure is necessary to complete critical pipeline work for both the University City Improv 1 & Group Job 1048 CIP projects.
The goal is to consolidate the construction work into this timeframe to minimize community impacts, specifically to avoid multiple intersection closures and to avoid multiple water service interruptions.
Detours will be posted accordingly, but community members are advised to use alternate routes and/or expect delay.
Completion of Group Job 1048 and University City Improv 1 along Genesee Avenue, including the Governor Drive & Genesee Avenue intersection, is part of a larger coordination effort for the final resurfacing on Genesee Avenue that will be completed as part of the Pure Water-Morena Conveyance North project.
As announced at the March UCCA meeting, as part of the Governor Dr Improv 1 project for water and sewer main replacement:
- Major work on water main installation at intersection of Governor and Genesee begins on April 1st and 2nd.
- UC Improv Project No.1 – Currently working on water main on Governor Drive between Dunant and Scripps to be completed next month. Then, water main installation will continue to move east.
- Governor Drive Restriping: funding for bike lane striping of Governor Drive was not part of original contract and there is no funding at this time.
