From Chase Bank: Scammers often insist money be sent with Zelle®, wire and account-to-account transfers, ACH or crypto because it’s fast to send and almost impossible to get back. Ref: https://www.chase.com/digital/resources/privacy-security/security/payment-choices

UCCA has been informed that bad actors – scammers – have been impersonating UCCA board members, including president Jemma Samala, and asking community members to make payments on behalf of UCCA and/or Jemma. This is a SCAM!

Please do not make payments for anyone or any organization, without checking it out first. Jemma is well known and her correct email address is in the newsletter and posted on UCCA’s website. Please verify before you send money. You can also contact our UCCA phone number at: 858-412-0786

There seem to be an increase in telephone and email scams in our area and throughout San Diego. The scammers come up with a convincing story (pretending to be UCCA board members, for example, asking you to make a payment on behalf of UCCA) and ask you to send money through an online service such as Zelle.

If you think you have been the victim of a financial scam, contact your financial institution immediately. You can also file an online Police Report to report the scam as a fraud. File an online Police Report at: https://www.sandiego.gov/police/services/file-police-report

University City Community Association (UCCA) does not and will not ask non-board members to make payments on UCCA’s behalf. Our organization has a treasurer to makes payments. There is no need for others to make payments of any kind on behalf of UCCA.
